As I prepare to post on visiting Basel, Switzerland, I wanted to briefly note the gift of unexpected blocks of time in a travel schedule. Traveling from Chamonix to Amsterdam required a four-hour layover in Basel. We’d not visited previously so we eagerly used this opportunity to do so.

Luggage storage lockers, whether in or near an airport, train or bus station, are a brilliant business proposition. Be sure to research their location whenever free time presents itself. We’ve found they generally accept credit cards and are available in multiple sizes to accommodate large backpacks, suitcases or small carry-ons. These storage options leave you unencumbered to explore when delays provide a block of time to do so.

Embracing delays is the equivalent of "Stopping to smell the roses." It's a gift allowing you to slow down and truly experience life. Be present in the moment.
